Fourth Monad, Wand Pips
As stated in Moon Day’s Lesson, we all know the tarot may be read in many different ways. The cards can be read Intuitively, or they can be read as an Universal story line that takes place as the Fool moves through everything under the sun, looking for every answer. Cartomancy divination may be even be read through each Element, through Ancestors, Plant and Animal Allies, as well as many other ways. Moving through the Soul Monads, we have also been interpreting each card set along side each Monad, since the Monad explains every possibility expressed through different Soul families. The tarot naturally does the same, thus a perfect paring of a Universal concept in Thought.
These are the cards of the Fourth Monad.
It is generally thought that the Wands represent Spirit in Matter, each an Experience of that manifestation. It is holding Torchlight for Self and Others. Evolved in the Fourth Monad, the movement is easier and working with others is not difficult as pure energy is embodied by all. Unevolved in the Fourth Monad are the negative aspects of each card. The concepts of forgiveness, acceptance, unconditional love, and others are missing from ones current manifested Soul. That is where the work on Self continues to occur.
Ace of Wands
It is well known that RWS borrowed ideas extensively from other creators. This group of Practitioners was simply “not the first”. None of us were. This has been a mostly accepted practice throughout the esoteric community as long as we give credit where credit is due, and because we ALL understand we have to spread as much of this Knowledge as possible to preserve it and expound upon it as it too evolves in understanding. This can be evidenced when we look at both the "Etteilla" and from the Sola-Busca tarot contributions as well.
How Waite (1910) borrowed from the "Etteilla" word-lists (Papus, La Tarot Divinatoire 1909) is shown on James Revak's website, HERE. In the case of the Sola-Busca Aces, Waite borrows mostly from the Marseille style as we previously stated. Does any ot this prevent us as Practitioners of the Arcane Arts from learning the various theories of What Is? NO. To us here at 3CMM, the origin of this Knowledge was simply gatekept by those who were elite in the societies that colonized others. It is simply not something to be kept as “elite” Knowledge. It is Knowledge that is actually worthy of being common to us ALL as THAT is where it originated. It belongs to the species, and the world, not simply a section of it.
BACK TO THE ACE
In the Waite-Smith Aces, we see a hand coming out of a cloud--the hand of Divine Source or Energy. Only in the Ace of Cups do we clearly see the influences of Sola-Busca deck. In that card, unlike this one, we clearly see all three Beings of the dogmatic Trinity as represented: “by the hand of the Father, the cup and Omega of the Son, and the dove of the Holy Spirit.” (Look at the time these cards were created. The whole world was being colonized and conquered by the Church. Of COURSE it was going to permeate the Thought of esoteric Knowledge.) The hand piercing through the Veil on this card is thought to be Spirit pushing into the realm of action or Matter. Spirit into Matter as it begins. We are being Divinely Guided, and have a strong Intuitive ability. We are firm in Self and Sovereignty. We are developing into our Higher Self, or Spirit.
The Ace of Wands can be interpreted on a spectrum just as all cards can. This card represents the spectrum of Divine Intelligence, Spirit. Whereas seen on the trump card of the major arcana, The Magician, also of a “one” designation, it is of Creative Intelligence, Matter. We see on one end is the self-less actions of for the good of all, and on the other end are the selfish actions that only benefit Self. The latter can come at the cost of everyone else, though. Either way, it is considered to be the beginning of what one embarks upon in their Journey; the beginning of THIS Life Journey, with Intelligence, Medicine and Magick.
When considering each card, always ask of Self, “Am I behaving, or making choices, in a beneficial way today?” What can I do to change or address Shadow or at least tame the Shadow/Ego for my Highest Benefit? Keep Self in check regardless of Monad.
It is understood on some Paths, that “In the light of the Ace of Wands”, or Spirit, “anything I do shall help our Soul Families for the next twelve generations” for example. (Jewish Mysticism) This Monad card glows with the flame of creativity through Thought, piercing through the astral so that all new things may enter this reality, and become manifested Matter. Those that are in this Monad can fully “play the tape out” and do not become embittered when “things don’t go their way”. Any way is a ‘good way’… they are in their state of Be. They are present and Aware of what is actually happening around them. They do not jump to conclusions nor are they quick to judgement. Their is a fuller understanding of “no two Paths are the same” and they are not bothered by it, accepting and at times embracing the concept by supporting others selflessly on their Path of Experience. Their spiritual cup is fuller. Their empathy is greater. That is, if they are evolved Fourth Monad manifestations. These individuals can be felt when they enter a room. The unfortunate part, cults happen whit these quite often. An individuals “rizz” (as the kids today say) or Charisma is through the roof. This is where it pays to be solid in Self before following any ol’ Tom, Dick, or Jane off a cliff. See their motive. Question how they treat and benefit others. It matters.
The Ace of Wands individual is clearly on their spiritual Path, or they are STUCK in stagnation. As this type of Self work is never ending, it all depends on where their Ego, Shadow and Soul Work are. Tasks that an Ace of Wands person starts, endeavors they begin as whole beings only continue to contribute to their burgeoning spiritual Experience in Matter. In the background of this card we see there is a castle, symbolizing one’s future, or future opportunities. The hills and mountains represent the challenges that may arise along the Journey.
Two of Wands
The story continues as Divine Energy divides into two as it pushed into Matter from the Spirit Monad into the Matter Dyad. Recall learning “cell mitosis” is science? Same concept, “as above, so below”, some Paths believe “She cleaved Herself in two.” (Wicca) Or, “He created us in His image.” (Judaeo-Christianity) Even in photonic science, “one” becomes “two” when cleaved. In mitosis we learned the mother cell divides herself in two. Remember, no two Paths are the same… as such, no two perspectives are the same.
In the Two of Wands, we see that one Wand is firmly attached to the wall behind this individual, while they place their other Wand on top of a low wall above a tapestry of crossed roses and lilies. The symbology of the roses and lilies is Divine balance of Feminine (Rose) and Masculine (Lily) energy. The secured wand can be beneficial or non-beneficial energy, depending on Self work.
This balance of energy also indicates the Two of Wands person is able to be Divinely guided without interference of Shadow or Ego if it is healed. Great opportunities are often presented to this balanced individual to pursue with planning that benefits them, not hastily. Unevolved, this “drive” can be viewed as wanderlust, the inability or the lack of desire to set roots. They can often be seen looking for that “greener pasture”. Their is balance between the Red and Blue Paths of one’s Journey. The Two of Wands typically “lives in their Truth” and are not afraid to explore or express that Magick or Medicine.
The mountains that are in the background share serenity and quiet strength. He gazes over the Harbor of Life, of Consciousness, where he is. It appears this individual is holding a globe aloft, considering how their life should not just touch the family, but that anything done can reach the entire world someday. Personal actions matter. For some Paths, when one energy split itself, it became two, one in Spirit and one in Matter, or this world came into being. (See also nuclear fission for further examples of “As above, so below” and more atoms splitting to become “two”.)
This individual is fully evolved through the Monads of Matter and is now looking outward to expand and explore. Standing high above the developed town below, Matter does not interest them as much. In the Fourth Monad, we are moving into our Experiences with Spirit.
Unevolved, there is fear of this change and this release of the physical, emotional or mental can stagnate. To make it to and begin to travel through the Fourth Monad is to be solidly on one’s Blue Path.
Do you feel it coming?
Three of Wands
This card like the two of Wands depicts an individual once again gazing over the Harbor of Life, in which is their fleet of ships. Recall, these are symbolic of movement and progression. Those of the Fourth Monad are being Divinely or Intuitively guided in their lives and can see all that lies ahead, including any upcoming challenges and opportunities. They freely share this Experience with others as they are an integral part of and support the actions chosen. The Fourth Monad is VERY adept at “playing the tape out” when they are healed and evolved to determine actions that benefit not only Self, but Other.
The red traveling cloak indicates their passion towards living in their Truth and walking their Life’s Journey. The checker board pattern draped over their shoulders, which is another Key that is seen throughout the Waite Rider, Smith Tarot deck is depicting creation is formed, through both dark and light. Answers are found moving through both. One cannot exist without the other. The dark and light spectrum are celebrated everyday through every way. We look further to see they wear a simple coronet on their head, representing ‘action follows thought’, manifestation, follows action. They lean on one staff while the other two are firmly planted in the ground. Meaning they lean on action to produce manifestation.
This card further evidenced a balanced backing of an individual. Notice also with the Wands’ suit some Wands are brown while others are gold. In the three of Wands they are ALL gold, meaning this individual has evolved to their Highest Benefit and have planted the seeds of abundance into the entire world for others too. This is further evidenced by a (green or white) mantle draped around the left shoulder suggesting the desire for success in the world of Matter, but not at personal detriment. Green also introduces earthly stability to Fire when seen. The Fourth Monad Three of Wands now shoulders responsibility, or may be committing to something beyond Self.
The blue of their right sleeve aims to always remind the of their spiritual duty to Spirit, Self and Others when taking action. The embody peace in action. A checkered sash of black and yellow hangs diagonally on their cloak. This symbolizes possible differing viewpoints of others that they are involved with. Peace? They know it is imperative to incorporate these other views or opinions into the overall plan if venturing forth with others. Only the less evolved in Self will find this task difficult. This sash may also be colored black and white in other decks. It might also suggest the further influence of their balance in both the Magician (Masculine) and High Priestess (Feminine) energies bringing them to this point of expansive release of unhealed unhealthy Ego and Shadow.
Bottom line, if you know this person, you want them leading the group! Even if they need a little help implementing the plan.
Four of Wands
The card seems to be inviting us into this scene, where two joyous figures wave their bouquets of flowers. A welcoming home or community after the Fourth Monads selfless endeavors of Spirit. This is a secure place and you may set roots here in this world as you explore the other. This card alsmost beckons the unevolved Fourth Monad to simply “stay put” which actually enables the unhealed in their Fear of Change. Calling us to pass through the garland decorated Wands, they are set up as if to say all is well with this place you are welcomed and appreciated. For a Soul that is in a state of Rest or Respite on its Journey, this is an ideal place. Essentially saying it is us that moves toward our Self Love our personal goals, even though we are accompanied by others on this Journey. This card may also reflect that the Monad is loyal, but may also be attached to their “loves” on this plane.
The Four of Wands is a strong Spiritual Community card. It can represent ceremonies and rituals that the Fourth Monad may have created and now regularly attends or performs for filling the spiritual cup of others. It also tells us that if we are invited by any Path to take part in events or workshops it is good omen indicating that we will be made to feel welcome and will find acceptance and support at those events. It is an honorable Knowledge share that we are being a part of and this is crucial for the growth and development of all.
It is the card of the Monad. The Sacredness of Four. The Four Elements. The Four Winds. From prehistoric times, the number four was employed to signify what was solid, what was tangible. Its a symbol of wholeness and universality, a symbol which drew all to itself in power. This Fourth Monad card represents the importance of collaboration and unity in achieving our goals. Additionally, the number 4 embodies practicality, structure, and hard work as guided by the Divine or Higher Self. #TrustSelf
The transverse of all of this can be true as well for the unevolved Fourth Monad. Stagnation can occur if one finds themselves doing the same thing day in and day out in their spiritual community. Not growing. Not changing. Not evolving.
This is a Stage Card. “All the world is a stage”. As, all of Matter is a stage for Spirit to play upon as it has it’s Divine Experiences. The foreground is flat and uniform in color. The background depicts a scene like a backdrop in a play. The four wands resemble props, the figures – the actors. The castle and moat are constant, the wands, garland, and richly dressed people may come and go, taking their turn to stage an event or occasion to their own style or taste, or ours, depending on our personal evolvement.
The Fourth Monad individuals may pay a heavy price to play Lord and Lady of the castle as they host celebrations and oversee the enjoyment of their guests.
What is their purpose? Is it SELF-LESS or is it SELFISH?
Everything is in place and ready to go. What shall the Fourth Monad choose? Be it stately or humble, the Four Wands planted in the ground give an impression of strength and stability.
Five of Wands
This card reflects this Monad as one who is in this cycle often entering their life roles with full abandonment, as if it is entertainment to them sometimes. This card more often reveals unchecked or unhealthy Ego versus Shadow.
They are reactionary to the nth degree when unhealed or unevolved. Practicing how to fight, not love, they can sometimes move into an issue without fully understanding all the actors in the drama. They are lacking in factos fo the matter. This goes for Protection as well. Offensive or defensive moving, Knowledge is power. Explore all avenues for the best plan of action.
One may ask, “If this person is in the process of waking up, why are they so reactionary?” Remember this is just one Monad, yet all Monads express perceived spectrums of “bad” and “good” traits. All have murderers and all have saints. ALL OF THEM. This individual has not worked out their issues, and interprets everything through this hyper emotionalism OF THE SECOND STREAM.
Recall the Fourth buddies up with the Second? Monad or Stream can cross to enable the other.
Do you know someone like this? One who emotionally reacts to everything, good - bad - indifferent?
While it is good to have emotions, it is not beneficial for anyone to be hyper emotional. Again, Shadow Work and Ego Work are vital because this “emotion” pushes balance out of the picture which results in chaos, not always the good chaos that produces creativity either. Yet as this person becomes more evolved they will produce creativity like none other. Divinely guided creativity. A very creative person may be in this state of evolution feeling their way through with their Intuition too.
Fives people tend to want to “do more” than simply Be, and that has to be checked by Self before it renders two steps backwards for the one step forward. There is upheaval in this card. This may indicate a change of Spirit, or practice. Those rituals that were created in Four may no longer sit “quite right” with Five. Because it is a card of Ego for most, it may be indicating the struggles and opposition that arise from ambitious maneuvering and a competitive urge.
A group of five young figures brandish Wands or sticks in their hands. It is unclear as to whether they use them as weapons for battle or sport. The scene presented to us is one of chaos, either organized or disorganised depending on the aim of the individuals involved. The figures appear to be fully engaged in this rowdy activity. At first glance, it looks a bit dangerous, as if a situation has got out of control. However, when we examine the individual faces, we find neither anger nor malice, but rather passion and determination. Indeed, they appear to be heartily enjoying themselves. There is an impression of noise and boisterousness as the Wands make contact and clash off each other. No one is directly hit with the sticks even though it might first appear that way. Unlike the Five of Swords, we see no injuries, no blood, no bodies scattered on the ground. These skirmishes symbolically represent the battles of daily life – our inherited human condition. Life is constantly throwing curve balls or sticks (Wands) at us. We either run for cover, or come out fighting. The five figures have decided to stand and fight.
Have you!?
Six of Wands
There it is again. That “traveling” cloak.
Have you figured it out yet?
No? Yes? The Fourth Monad, “to develop”, is where we delve deeper into Astral Travel, Lucid Dreaming and have a pretty solid spiritual Path. This is where we begin to shift to the Blue Path. We become more Aware of and connected to Spirit and Higher Self.
Looking at the card, we see a person riding into town on a beautiful white horse in victory, wearing a victory wreath on their head and displaying another wreath attached to the top of their Wand.
Are they reluctant warriors defending a just cause for Other?
Were they taking part in something they believe in personally, Protecting that Thought or idea?
Horses, just like dogs long ago, decided to work with humankind as an Animal Ally. This person’s partner is their horse; this horse was in the same battles their rider fought as well.
How did the loyal Horse feel being there? Will Horse develop PTSD from battle too? Horses are intelligent creatures and if they wanted to run away in battle they would, however they know they were trained to run through the flying spears and bullets in battle and are loyal to their soldier, to the death. Honor your Allies. The darker side of this card shows a person that is highly delusional in thinking only he can save the day. We know that is not always true. On the lighter side, this card can mean a new victory is coming.
This is a “yes” card. We often receive accolades versus the peace and quiet we desire after the energy of the Five of Wands. As we are the rider upon the horse, we not only have “the upper hand” in the situation, an evolved Soul feels they have the honor and dignity of caring for what’s best for everyone involved. You have given your word. On the flip-side, this card can represent the unevolved who no matter how hard they try to succeed, they won’t because they lack Self work. Confidence. Self Love. Shadow and Ego Work need to be looked at. When this card shows up for an Unhealed Fourth Monad, they can bet old wounds are about to be bothered. This time it could be a loved one going through the same thing they had personally Experienced. An evolved Fourth Monad will be able to walk with this other individual and support them versus become involved and reactionary.
Seven of Wands
This person is seen taking stand against those stepping into their space. They are setting up parameters to Protect themselves or others in whatever that may be; physical space, emotional space, creative space, friends or business partners. This card clearly shows this Monad’s world view. Unevolved this can be a reactionary endeavor as they wear their emotions on their sleeves. Or, they may be defending another and their Sovereignty. This Fourth Monad individual can always be weary of others if they have unhealed trauma/Trauma.
This person is however often aware of this emotionality and are usually doing their Self Work as they evolve. Either way, they can be relentless or they can take the high road. It all depends on where they stand with Self.
As our final spiritual evolutionary push in the Fourth Monad, we find that we ultimately not only have to stand up for our personal beliefs to friends and family, but to the community and world at large before there will every be overall change and acceptance. There will much stagnation until we can collectively turn the tide. Our beliefs and morals will be challenged in every possible way from Physical, Emotions and Mental aspects. As we become more visible and influential, there may be those who seek to challenge our position or undermine our accomplishments. Be prepared to defend ideas, expertise, and reputation.
The number 7 is regarded as mysterious and spiritual, ruled by the planet Ketu, not really a planet, but the South Node of the Moon. It is associated with creativity and intuition. Sound familiar? It can also be indicating moodiness and anxiety issues around the Fourth Monad. These people can be great Healers, Spiritual Teachers, and Medicine People. (Brown and green are their colors! Note the tunic.) Even though this individual of the Fourth Monad may appear to be backed into the corner, they are wise to never forget they are on their Blue Path and are Divinely Protected. Healed or Unhealed beliefs will be challenged. #TrustSelf Don’t let the surprise of the event, as evidenced by two different shoes on this card, catch us off guard. Anything is possible. Anything is probable. Everything is permitted.
The Universe is unconditional is its seeking of balance through constant change.
Eight of Wands
From seemingly out of no-where Wands are flying through the air. From where are these troubles are originating? Asking, “how can I take this information and make a new way to formulate this process that benefits everyone” is often what this card indicates. This Monad unevolved only sees their single point of view, no matter how many facts or life lines are thrown at them. On the darker side the Fourth Monad may think these are spears being thrown at them. On the lighter side they think these Wands are here to help. Out of nowhere come answers and help for the dilemma. This person may or may not be consciously evolving with Self.
This card indicates progress or movement, but it depends on if one is evolved or unevolved. One can expect a big upswing in positive energy or support from others, OR, a lack thereof.
Which do you think will effect you? Why? How can we improve our station relative to this card?
The sky is clear and River of Consciousness is flowing freely and giving life to the surrounding landscape. We are wise to carry our weight as we evolve, to NOT place it in another’s hands. Trust Self, Trust Intuition. By harnessing the energy of the Universe and aligning our desires with our actions, we can manifest our dreams into reality.
Nine of Wands
On the lighter side, battered and wounded, the Fourth Monad has everything orderly, but thinking to Self, “was it worth the personal wounding to accomplish this, to win this battle?” This Monad personality feels deeply hurt; even though they worked diligently to give of themselves in every way to their perceived ‘cause’, family, friend, community, or world.
The darker side is that is they approach life with distrust and hurt. They are unevolved in their Soul Work and hold onto the last Wand — gripping it with both hands. Not willing to release this last vestige of one of their grudges of this Life Cycle. They continue to hold unhealed Shadow or Ego by this action. This Fourth Monad individual even knows exactly where to plant their Wand in the line of Wands they have already released to Protect themselves. They know that most times this one little thing is what needs to be done to move forward.
Yet, can they? What is preventing them from planting their Wand and making this final push for spiritual evolution?
We can just hear them think, “one more grudge to release becoming completely unburdened and processing clean hands, just one more!” This is truly a card of an individuals that has woken up.
One may say, “shouldn’t waking up be pleasant?” Not necessarily.
Can you remember the times in your life when the light was turned on and when it did, all you saw was it illuminating chaos or troubles? (Dirty kitchen to broken glass from the partner fight the night before.) That the things that were hidden came to light inside crises?
Again, this Monad yells for Shadow and Ego to be addressed before they “come to light in crisis”. The Nine of Wands in the Fourth Monad asks us to “please, make one final push.” The Universe loves us Unconditionally. Mother Nature. Your Highers Self. What Name You Call it….
SELF.
Truth light always shines. Persevere.
Ten of Wands
Dutiful dedication gets the job done is the ligher side of this card. Shadow side, this Monad thinks if they do not do the task it will never be done right, correctly or to their perceived “standard”. That’s Ego. Ego will work us TO DEATH! They cannot allow others, or find it difficult to allow others, to move through processes on their own and in their own way. Work. Grief. Childbirth. Every action is individualized. Unevolved, this Monad fails to ACCEPT that “no two Paths are the same” to its fullest.
This is often a fallacy, a sign of other things that a person may have going on. Shadow. Ego. They may think, “why am I the person that ends up doing everything?” Yet if we look deeper, sometimes we see that they loves being the sole provider and the hardest worker in town, but because of unhealed Shadow, not because they are living in their Truth. Regarding personality, this individual’s world view shows up here as well as the five, seven, and the nine of Wands cards do.
This person is looking for instances that prove their belief system that says, it is a “me against them” world view or everyone is perceived as a combatant and they continually react to this false conclusion which turns it into a False Truth that supports their belief, thus round and round this individual goes, They may have actually “lost their way” to some extent. A primary example of this would be those that think or feel that there are “witch wars” and perpetually are stuck in recreating them. It is through better actions, words, attitude, etc. Self Work must be done to alleviate and heal this.
On the healed and evolved side of things, by this point in the Fourth Monad, they can one day look up and see the world with new eyes, as those of the Magician. Maybe after that Shadow or Ego work? (It is SO important.) Self Care is KEY to healing and holding this space for your Self.
