Moon Phase Magick
Did you celebrate your magick this moon phase?
Did you install an App on your device or consult resources to aid you in finding the moon this cycle for your Partner Spell? Even when you cannot see Her, Luna is there! Even if you do not Work with Her, She affects the Cycles on our planet, thereby our energies. You cannot throw a rock in the pond of Energy without making ripples. And, with a radius of 1,080 miles, She’s a big one!

Incense for Magick
While there are many Plant Allies that provide for incense in both Medicinal and Magickal workings, these are typically “ready made” for you by others. It only matters as much as you believe it matters whether they be apothecary shoppes that make their own, or you buy them at the grocery store down the road. You can even find some of these “in the wild” and naturally grown around your place of dwelling most times.
Choose what calls to YOU, not someone else. What Plant Ally is calling to you for the Intent?
Take for example either of these, Angelica, Apple Blossom or Basil. These can be grown in your Practitioner’s Garden … or your fellow Practitioner’s garden. It does NOT have to be “bought” at all to work and empower your magick and medicine, nor does it have to be “pesonally made”.
YOU DO YOU, UNLESS, a specific thing on a specific Path is being called for. Then, to achieve the same or similar results as the Path the spell is written for, use what is recommended until you have Worked the spell.

Do’s
The Universe gives us a little Medicine & Magick for Self exploration every 28 days or so. It gives us regular energy bursts so small it may be missed by many Practitioners altogether. Some may even go as far as to call this energy — “hidden” sometimes as Luna is mostly invisible from each side of the Earth for a few hours every 24 as She circles. This lovely energy, even that of the Dark, Balsamic or New Moon, is similar every 28 days or so for Practitioners to harness for their Intents.
NEW MOON
In astrological terms, the New Moon is one of the moon’s many phases we have been spending this entire cycle for Moon Watch discovering —specifically, the phase where the moon and sun align. The sun shines behind the moon, blocking us from its view. This is what we call the New Moon. At new moon, the sun, Earth, and moon are aligned in space, with the moon in the middle. The moon's night side – its darkened hemisphere – directly faces us making it invisible.
As we have learned, the New Moon marks the beginning of a new lunar cycle and often brings with it an array of new beginnings. This leaves new moons feeling like a particularly ideal time for self-reflection, course correction and goal-setting. Have you grabbed this time for its power?
Interestingly enough, most Practitioners are unconsciously already aligned with the energy, tending to create new habits, start new projects and initiate life changes unknowingly around the same time as the new moon phases. Consciously embracing the new moon’s fresh energy can allow your Intent to propel through those transitions even further.
Here are a few Do's. Consider this a field guide to new moons in all their energetic glory—a resource you can revisit every 28-30 days from here on out, if you like.
NEW MOON DO’s
Set an Achievable/Measurable Intention
Every month, the moon delivers us an extra boost of Intention-setting energy for our Works. Why not hone it by focusing on one or two Intentions you are particularly passionate about?
Take some time to craft Intentions that are clean, clear, curious and as specific as you can make them TO YOU. Think: “I have a new job that brings me fulfillment, with a higher salary than I currently have.” Or: “I have PASSED the bar exam.” These Intentions are clear, specific, and PRESENT. Not only will they inform the Universe of your Intented aspirations, but they all also keep you focused on what it is you are really after.
Light a Candle
Bring some light into your life in some other way. Lighting a candle, actual or LED, on the darkest nights of the month signifies your desire to bring just a little more light into your life. Tell the Universe to shine light on you during this new moon and all the ones that follow it. Utilize Correspondences relative to your Intent. Colors. Herbs. Etc.
Charge your candles with an Intention you wish to manifest during this moon cycle. Simply hold the candle, summon feelings of gratitude and love, and tell the Universe what it is you want. Light the candle, and allow it to burn out on its own.
Begin Something New
The new moon is the most fertile day of the lunar cycle each month. If there was a perfect time for initiating anything new, it would certainly be the new moon! Start a new class. Apply for that job. Ask that person on a date. Start anything and everything you feel passionate about. Now is the perfect moment to begin anew.
Go on a First Date (Self Love too!)
Speaking of starting something new—a first date with Self or Other is a wonderful activity for a new moon. “I’m taking myself for ice cream!” The Universe is brimming with energy and possibility—the perfect time to plant the seeds for a new relationship and what you want to manifest in nigh. At this syzygy, or conjunction, a lot of times you get a person exhibiting more of their "Moon" or "Rising" personality traits as the power of the Sun is BEHIND the Moon.

Make a List
Remember those Intentions we talked about earlier? Well, if you want to super-magnify them, make a list of 15 of the items/details you would like the Universe to bring. Choose the “First Five” and those will be your main focus this moon cycle. Remember, be clean, clear and curious!
Say your Intention is to find a new job. Where will your office be? See it. What will your hours be like? Feel it. What will your boss be like? Hear them telling you "job well done". What kinds of projects will you work on? Taste the job completion luncheon with new clients. The same goes for love. What type of relationship do you want? (Think about what you will and won’t live with. If you broke up with someone over dirty socks, REMEMBER THAT.) See it. What do you do with your partner for fun? (Are the balanced in their work and personal life?) Smell the mountains or ocean air you visit with them.
Make it as detailed as you can. The idea is to create an image in your mind of what this new situation will look like when you get there, so you can stay focused on what’s truly meaningful to you.
Create Sacred Space
This is the most important. This space is with you throughout your time here on this plane. The new moon is the optimal time for setting a sacred space in your home to make your own magick. Cleanse the energy of the place where you will be in meditation, manifesting and self-reflecting. Get the junk of the world out—and keep it out. In time, when you enter that space, your body and mind will know it is time to make magick. It will become a magical trigger. Make sure after you have set it up, you keep it clean and tidy to avoid bad vibes. Do not allow others to move in or out of it, in any way. Do not be "rude" about it but offer to help them set up their "space" if they require one too.
Write/Make Your Own Ritual
If you are thinking of salt circles and witches over a cauldron, just remember that although these rituals certainly exist, that is not necessarily what we are talking about. Making your own ritual is simply a matter of creating a set of Practices you commit to doing during every new moon -- that are YOURS. It could be as simple as meditating, taking a yoga class, or writing a list, and taking time out for Self. Or, it can be as elaborate as creating a space, making a crystal grid, taking a cleansing bath or smudging your entire home. Yes, you can smudge, or sain, or cleanse related to whatever Path you follow.
Whatever it is, make sure it incorporates taking a moment to reflect and plant a few seeds of Intention. Taking periodic pauses can help you avoid venturing too far down a Path that is not aligned with your heart, mind, or Spirit. Use the new moon as a reminder to stop, access and maneuver to your dreams.
Selenology 101
Don’ts
Utilize the energy for those things that can propel in its cosmic wave of energy. Watch the sign Luna is in as well as the phase …AND USE IT! Of course, not everyone does this. “No two Paths are the same.” Otherwise, this is a great resource to have.
DO NOT Quit Something You Care About
A new moon is about creation. Because it is a “path of least resistance” time. The strength of our Star is cosmically blocked. Of course, sometimes you have to let go of habits, people and situations that no longer suit you. However, deciding to give up on anything you truly care about on a new moon may prove to be a waste of energy. Funnel your energy into starting, not stopping, UNLESS you absolutely "have to". (save the full moon phase for that Luna Strength!)
DO NOT Avoid New People
New moons are notorious for bringing new people into our lives, again because that energetic “path of least resistance” is present. Often these newcomers bring us lessons our souls crave or need to experience. Do not miss out on these. When you encounter someone different or outside your usual type during a new moon, be open and curious. Try to learn about them. You never know what joys or ideas they may bring.
DO NOT Decline Unexpected Invites
Speaking of meeting new folks, a new moon is a great time to get out of the house. Since a new moon is great for meeting new people, consider saying "yes" to any (and all!) random invites that come your way. There is a reason, good, bad, indifferent. #TryIt
AVOID PSYCHIC VAMPIRES or DO NOT Spend Time with Energy Suckers
They seem to be more prevalent on dark or new moons than full, as Hollywood would have you believe. This is is a no-no in general, but it cannot always be avoided. But. Since new moon energy is so incredibly special, shun any energy-drainers and do so unabashedly. You want to harness all the positive and creative energy flowing around you; none of it should be sacrificed. Simply said, do not let others kill your vibe. Wear some tourmaline or Dragon’s Blood and ROCK ON!
Think About It
The New Moon is a good time to take stock in Self each month. Look at where you have been and where you are going. Look at what you have learned. Meditate deep within. Ask for dreams. Set your Intentions for the next cycle. The energy of the moon will help propel you to your Truth.
