Vocabulary III
Psychic Shielding: Strengthening one’s aura, or energetic field, to protect and prevent unwanted or extraneous energy from effecting/affecting Self.
Psychism: As we know, Magick is ACTIVELY using the powers of the Soul/Spirit as in a spell we Craft. Psychism is PASSIVELY the same ability to communicate or receive messages or guidance from the Higher Self, Divinity, or others. This can utilize any of the aforementioned Clair abilities or divination techniques, including Lucid Dreaming, Astral Travel, etc. Some Practitioners believe Magick and Psychism are intertwined. Perfecting the ability to meditate without assistance greatly improves psychism over time.
Shifting: Actively changing our level of thinking from day to day, or Consciousness, to benefit in the highest for our Medicine and Magick. This is done to communicate with the Higher Self, Divinity, etc. This is primarily done also when performing Work or Craft, when one covers their head before Working on certain Paths, it hifts once Consciousness to a “ready” state.
Veil: Unlike the closer aspects of our point of existence, such as those in the Physical —such as Thought; in the Emotional — such as Feeling, or Mental?Psychological — such as Perception of Self, this is located in the seemingly unconnected aspects or the more distant Spirit Self. To many Practitioners – it is the place where we Experience the Clairs and abilities such as telekinesis, or go into the Astral..
These seemingly further aspects are usually Experienced by Practitioners through much work in efforts such as meditation and eacstatic practices. The “veil” is what has symbolically been placed between the two. It is the “breath” between the Experience of Matter and Spirit.
Typically, unless someone has been determined to be “born old” or have spent time working on these abilities, the ‘veil’ will appear, or seem as a thick ‘fog’ between the Practitioner and the Higher Self. Between YOU - Matter, and YOU - Spirit. YOU are a WHOLE BEING, MATTER AND SPIRIT. The “fog” is only a perception to be worked through.
Honest and sincere efforts in Ego and Shadow Work help to cross into here as well. There is Healing and ordered thought versus chaos that drives to the Highest Benefit. This can occur with regular ecstatic practice or meditation with Self if in a lull with Shadow. This Veil becomes thinner with Time and as we evolve on our spiritual Path. It is believed that beyond this Veil many Beings already exist freely and this is where the communications can be sought between the planes, or “hedges” from other human spirits, entities, Guides, Medicine Teachers, etc.
Beginning Practicum
Tools - Oils
One of the most common Medicine and Magick forms are oils. Oils can be used to do everything from anoint tools to dress candles. Oils can also be made from herbs or crystals for Works such as Healing. The Practitioner simply needs to know the properties of the Plant or Stone Ally they are calling on to be absorbed by the oil. Three Circles Medicine & Magick also recommends that each Practitioner know the interactions of the stones being placed inside.
The hardiness of the stones may be found on the Mohs scale – unless they are okay with it dissolving, when placing stones into the Work. We look at Stone Allies like Protective Selenite — Oil. (Used for dressing candles.) Regardless of what is decided to utilize, plan the correspondences accordingly and align them with what resonates for the Work.
Although pre-made oils are commercially available to use, knowing the source of the oil is Key sometimes. Especially when it comes to quality or being adulterated with foreign and sometimes dangerous substances. Ask Self: Is it adulterated and with what? Is it responsibly sourced? Is it “essential”? (These must diluted to use on skin or one may receive a plant/chemical burn.)
To make your own you first need to decide the Intent and what corresponds with that Intent.
PURCHASED
If utilizing an “essential” oils from purchase, prepare a Companion Jar or Bottle. (an empty essential oil container that has been cleansed and consecrated for the purpose is ideal.) Olive oil, sunflower oil, fractionated coconut oil, pure vegetable glycerin, and occasionally things like jojoba oil may be utilized, but The Poisoner’s Apothecary (Colby) is telling us for jojoba that the global market is driving its price up because it is a limited resource.
It is wise to also decide on how long we desire the oil to stay fresh. *Aged oils may still be used on dressing candles but they will require some boosting Magickally to complete a Spell after sitting for a long time.
The other things to consider for dilution oils are allergy, source and correspondence.
CORRESPONDENCE
Correspondence is not something many Practitioners think about, but everything can matter in Medicine and Magick. If the Sell has not worked a time or two, consider taking a look at EVERY THING, including the oil being utilized to dress a candle or annoint other tools, for example.
Did you make it, or did another Practitioner?
COMPANION JAR
Do not fill the Companion Jar completely. Leave room to add ONE DROP AT A TIME of the chosen essential oil until it reaches the desired strength. This is where we make the oil very personal. (We recommend this for Florida Water as well. MAKE IT PERSONAL. It is more powerful that way!)
Also of note, there are some Practitioners that do not like — or cannot tolerate — strong scents, some cannot breathe them. THIS is how to reduce them and still have the Plant Ally’s assistance. This can be done with one or many, just remember, sometimes “less is more”. In some cases, they can cancel each other out.
RENDERED
Outside of the base, most oils can be made on personally. However, unless there is Knowledge available in how to render that exact oil from the Plant Ally, say olive, most simply purchase it from others. Once we have our base oil, decide on the Plant Ally that resonates with the Work.
HEAT METHOD
Place the amount of the decided or recipe amount of the oil in a small pan. Place the Plant Ally whose essence is required for the Intent into the pan. WARM the pan, do not make it hot. Too much heat will destroy the genetic code of the Plant Ally —like we do cooking eggs with transmutation. (We cannot “uncook” an egg.)
Allow it to cool. Warm the Plant Ally again several times throughout the corresponded day, time, moon, etcetera for the Intent. The more we are aligned that day, the stronger the oil will be.
Once the Plant Ally has been reduced down to what we feel is “done”, it is. Remove it from the heat one final time and allow to cool completely.
Once the Plant Ally has cooled, strain the matter out thoroughly through cheese cloth or a fine mesh like the material used to make the wash bag for delicate laundry. This typically has to be strained into a bowl first and funneled or carefully poured into a prepared jar if larger, or added by dropper if smaller.
Tweak this method, or recipe if using one, as needed and how it works best personally.
LEECHING METHOD
Simply put, place oil base into jar and place whole or macerated Plant Ally matter into the oil. This method can take from a week — up to a month or more for various Plant Allies to marry into the oil. Again, determine correspondences related to Intent. (We can make tinctures this way too.)

Tools - Incense
Incense are extremely easy to make. Simply decide which Plant Ally will best aid in the Intented Works the most.
These can picked from natural surroundings based on residence and knowledge of their correspondence or they can consecrated from a store bought cooking herb. Either way, if we Will it, it Will be.
FRESH
Take a walk with Mother Nature and see if any Plant Allies can be spotted in the area. We have covered a few here at 3CMM such as Fleabane and Poke Sallet. If we are going to do fresh, wear gloves or know what is being touched, like roses. ALWAYS wash hands after!
Simply allow these plants to dry under the sun, or on a basket under the moon. Hang them inverted in the Kitchen Witching way, or in a special place.
Once they have dried completely, grind the Plant Ally into a powder with a mortar and pestle or as finely as possible with fingers, a cup, or other utensil.
Once dried and ready, Fire may be used safely and directly with the Plant Ally on/in a nonflammable surface or on a censer with a charcoal piece by sprinkling the powder on it after lighting the briquette. This type of incense can be thrown into a festival fire, hearth fire, etc.
Mix several Plant Allies for a desired Intent or effect for Magick and Medicine.
IF needed, as these Work more quickly, place these powdered incense on waxed paper for 10 minute intervals on an oven setting of 250 degrees. Mind doing this to flower petals as they are happier drying in sunlight on a basket.
COMMERCIAL
These are typically already dried. Macerate them further per the chosen method. Cleanse and consecrate them and burn them according to the Intent’s correspondence. Again, directly in a fire or with a charcoal piece.
CAUTION: When burning ANYTHING in the pepper family, please have proper ventilation or be outside as these cause respiratory irritation.
Remember, whether we buy or make our oils and incense, Charge them with their Intent. Utilize the moonlight or sunlight or an incantation holding the oil bottle in a hand and visualizing the energy going into it, which is the easiest way. Some may have trouble with this method though if there is trouble meditating. Instead, speak softly, or boldly, to the Plant or Stone Ally to charge it with the Intent. This will help them to be more empowering to the Works.
“I cleanse and consecrate you with the energies from the Universe, in the name of the Divine, God and Goddess.”
Happy Crafting!
