As We Will It: Protection
Before we utilize any energetic or personal practices, we should always Protect ourselves and those around us from rogue energies that may escape, be residual from previous Works or stay in an unexpected way of collateral fallout.
Beginning Pharmakeia
(Daisy) Fleabane
Erigeron can be found around the world, including China. Fleabanes are a pioneering species. Their magickal properties can also be considered “healing” because Mother Nature will send this plant into an area that has been damaged by flood, fire, humans, etc. It helps convert the soil to support life. This plant is also great for all of the pollinators. It attracts RARE butterflies, birds and bees of all kinds annually, sometimes biannually, when it blooms again in the autumn.
This seeming “weed” is a powerhouse of growth and protection for our planet and is needed in many areas. For this reason, it was purposely introduced to many lands as in Korea after war.
It is controlled naturally over time by Mother Nature as it is an early-successional species, (remember, it preps the soil) often being replaced by perennial grasses native to the area, which in turn will bring back fauna. Many sites that have been destroyed by environmental catastrophes, such as war, over farming, over foresting, benefit from this healing plant.
The Erigerons in their various pieces are smokeable, made into a tincture, cooked, etc. The leaves, especially when new, are thrice cooked (like poke sallet) with water changes each time, to render a “peppery” like leafy vegetable.
Watch the video below to learn more about this global, medicinal, magickal species.
IDENTIFICATION
The various Erigeron species, Philad for identification. elphia fleabane, (Erigeron philadelphicus) stem leaves are toothed and clasping, flowers bloom earlier, and is more a woodland species.
Annual Fleabane (Erigeron annuus) has broader, more distinctly toothed leaves, is hairier overall, and tends to be a taller plant.
MEDICINAL
Medicinally this is a plant in which caffeic acid can be isolated to treat neurodegeneration. (Journal of Chinese Medicine. Jeong et. al. took extracts of the plant and examined the compounds. They found strong antioxidant capabilities that may protect neural cells — and thus be possibly useful in the future to treat diseases such as Alzheimers.) Tea anyone?
MAGICKAL
Magickal properties in Spellwork: Exorcism, Healing, Protection, Chastity.
In the video below you will hear dozens of uses by First Nationers. These are the native uses of this plant world wide.

Mica
A common Stone Ally, Mica can be found all over the world. In Asia: Sichuan, Nei Menggu, Qinghai, Xizang, just to name a few places it can be found in China. The main mica deposit types are granite pegmatite, magnesium skarn and contact metasomatism. The granite pegmatite type is of most importance for Magick and Medicine in this part of the world as it is the “strongest”.
MICA FROM WHEN?
The main mica mineragenetic epoch is the Archean Era, Proterozoic Eon and Paleozoic Era, few of this rock type is formed after Mesozoic Era. That’s 251.902 (+/- 0.24) million years ago - 65 million years ago for those that wish to do the math! So, what we find out in our world Stone Ally Mica has been here a VERY long time.
Do you see any mica where you walk on Mother Earth?
Mica is a natural Stone Ally with a vitreous to pearly luster, which forms in multiple distinct layers. Mica is actually a broad term that is attributed to more than 34 types of these layers. The most common form of mica is called muscovite, while other varieties include anandite, fuchsite and lepidolite.
Despite their relation, “mica” has varied energetic properties based on the quantity of minerals it has present within it.
MAGICKAL
Generally speaking, Mica is an excellent Protection mineral, as it is not only insulating, but its reflective surface also deflects negative energy and psychic attack. Because of its non-conductivity, it is also very helpful in creating a shield from electromagnetic radiation, and can be placed on a desk between the user and a computer. (Similar to black tourmaline can.)
Take a walk and see if you can spot this shiny common, powerful, spiritual stone.

Think About It
Some believe there is a Golden Thread that connects all things. That “thread” is energy, and you CAN learn to see it in all things of Matter.
Think About It
We are still looking for connections. There are several mentioned, do you see them? Similar names? Uses in other Practices or on other Paths?
Just know, there is no right or wrong answers.
The Tao of Craft:
Fu Talismans and Casting Sigils in the Eastern Esoteric Tradition by Benebell Wen.
Published by North Atlantic Books (600 pages)
Book of the Week
Knowledge is Power
The Tao of Craft, by Benebell Wen (also author of Holistic Tarot), is an English-language practitioner’s guide to Chinese 符 (fú).
Good Reads Review:
For the first time in English, Benebell Wen reveals the rich history and theoretical principles underlying the ancient practice of crafting Fu talismans, or magical sigils, in the Chinese Taoist tradition and gives detailed instructions for modern practitioners who would like to craft their own Fu. Fu talismans are ideograms and writings typically rendered on paper and empowered by means of invocations, ritual, and transferences of energy, or Qi. Talismans can be used for many purposes, such as strengthening or weakening personality characteristics, finding love, earning more money, or easing emotional tensions in the home. The Tao of Craft shows how metaphysical energy can be harnessed to amplify, strengthen, weaken, dispel, or block other metaphysical energy and to rectify perceived imbalances in the material plane. Supported by an abundance of detailed charts and images, this book serves as a step-by-step handbook that gives readers the knowledge and confidence to craft their own Fu talismans for personal empowerment.
Wen, author of Holistic Tarot, delves into historic and cultural contexts of the Fu, from the neolithic period of Chinese history to contemporary practices of esoteric Taoism. Providing a solid foundation in the principles of Eastern spellcrafting, she highlights the blending of Taoist metaphysical practices with Western approaches to magic by pointing out eclectic, integrating, and harmonizing facets from other cultures and religions.
Historically, Fu talismans were used by medieval Chinese for alleviating illness; averting misfortune, magical attacks, and curses; defending against assaults; and avoiding poverty. This book shows Western practitioners that the skill and knowledge to develop an interactive relationship with spirit realms are still available to them today, and serves as a practical handbook for accumulating Qi energy from sources in the environment and channeling it in concentrated form into their own Fu talismans."

Waning Gibbous
Intentions of
Releasing, Reflecting, Gratitude
"Lunar magick is all about doing the right thing at the right time for the right result… and listening to the Universe while doing it. What you think is the ‘right time’ MAY NOT BE for the Universe. FEEL."
In many cultures, those who call themselves witches, wu, shaman, or any other chosen names — the Practitioners of the Arcane Arts have used the position and phases of the moon to aid in their strengthening their Magick and Medicine. With the moon being the closest astronomical body to Earth, it can have an energetic influence and the outcome of our spells and rituals.
The Waning Gibbous phase is when the lit-up part of the Moon shrinks from 99.9% to 50.1%. It starts just after Full Moon and lasts until the Third Quarter Moon.
Have you seen it on your Month Long Moon Watch?
Waning means that the Moon appears to be shrinking and getting smaller, while gibbous refers to the oval-to-round shape appearance of the moon. “Gibbous” is less than a Full Moon but more extensive than the Third Quarter's semicircle shape.
What does a waning moon mean magickally?
For some Practitioners, it is the time for ‘banishing’. Sound familiar?
Be as meticulous as you can and WRITE OUT your spell plan first. See what pops out at you. What Correspondences speak to or vibrate for you? Often, these make up for an absent moon phase. FEEL for that. Ask the correct questions FOR YOU. Even if the moon is not in the phase you ‘want’ it to be, it can still be utilized IN EVERY PHASE for your Craft.
Still not sure? Divine. Draw a card. Ask a pendulum. Dream!
You simply have to phrase your Petition to maximize its effect for your benefit.
Maybe not an “Abundance” Craft, but a “Banishment” of my tardiness for example — so you can improve your odds of landing a better job, which in turn brings you monetary abundance. See how that works?
Maybe not a “Healing” Craft, but a “Banishment” of my addiction” — so you can heal your body, which in turn brings you better health. Make sense?
Does that make for a fuller understanding of the use of the Energy that is ALWAYS here?
Whether you have started your required magicks or not, here are some additional points to consider:
CORRESPONDENCES
You can choose any of the Correspondences we have covered OR you can use what you know.
OTHER INGREDIANTS
You can essentially have ANY ingredients or correspondence for your Craft. We simply ask that you are able to explain, or justify to Self, why you chose that particular item.
RESOURCES
You have full access to the internet, you have seen “reputable” sources, or you may use your notes, or a Book of Shadows if you have one, OR you may speak to each other in the group. (None of this is required, just know you are allowed.)
You were notified on Monday and will present your Craft by next Monday. Essentially you will have had 7 days to present your FIRST SPELL - INDIVIDUAL via the email link for the assigned day.
You have until 12 Midnight on Monday, to email Written and/or Practicum.
You DO NOT have to disclose what your spell was used for specifically unless you are comfortable with that. This option for private Craft is only with INDIVIDUAL SPELL.
These are the general questions we are asking when we review your Spells or Craft:
1. How did you present it?
Candle? Jar? Bowl? Mind? Sigil? Tea? Written?
2. What was used in Correspondence?
Your reasons can even be YOUR OWN. Just because a Correspondence says “use a red candle” but a yellow one called to you, GO WITH THAT. The Universe does not talk to you with “feeling” without reason. (Yes, you are correct, we have not talked extensively about this. There is a “reason” for everything.) Stones? Herbs?
3. When?
When will you do this spell? Tonight? Right after you read this? Tomorrow? What time of day? Morning? Afternoon?
Take notes while you are working. You do not have to “know” why you are doing what you are doing, but you do need to be able to respond when asked “why that xyz?”
Ready? Set? GO!
