Correspondences 101
Saturn
Saturn. A planet of both … death and rebirth. A sign of the ever changing and evolving cycle of What it.
As we finish out our month of Hurt and Heal, Medicine and Magick, we will take a look at a few Correspondences for this planet of Eternal Change.
Saturn is often thought of as the Planet of the Father in Western Esotericism, or Karma in Eastern Esotericism. (Dogmatic difference separated the two.) It is the ‘authority’ figure that takes us spiritual beings to the edge of What Is in our Experience of Matter as spiritual beings and can say “no, go here and no further”. Why? Because it is showing us that this is the end of our Experience of Matter as a Spirit.
If we cross that boundary, what changes?
The Experience of Matter does.
Often misunderstood, it metaphysically represents our boundaries and limitations as set by our concept of Time in Matter, not Spirit. Every Circle we enter in Matter is a Saturn Circle. It has boundaries. It, metaphysical Saturn, efficiently differentiates between one and another. Until YOU choose to explore further with Self in Spirt outside of those boundaries, such as one does with astral travel.
Why Saturn? Symbolically, as a fledgling human, we were taught to see first with only our physical eyes, “what can you see”? Stars. Planets.
Saturn being the Sixth Planet, it is representative of what is beyond our Stream of Consciousness in most Circles of Matter. We could only see it with our physical eyes when we began learning. Taking input through our senses and processing it is how we often begin learning. It is not until we turn inward toward Self that we begin to see our Spirit, or Spirit.
Saturn is what stands on the other side, in Spirit, saying “are you sure?” “Do you understand?” Saturn can both Banish and Bind us to this Experience of Matter if we do not explore Self, Heal Self. learn patience, structure, detail, boundaries, Shadow, Ego… the difference of what has been given to the physical realm versus the Experience of Spirit. We are to learn, it is believed, that we are here to Experience Matter through the Spirit of Self. That we are spiritual beings, energy, having an Experience of Matter.
On many Eastern Paths, “reincarnation” is believed to occur until you/we have had all possible Experiences of Matter. Recall the “Memories of Children”? It is further believed that we have all done this – together, and only our thought, or memory, of what has occurred is being reviewed.
Represented by the color “black”, this thought is further enforced as “black is the color you see when an object absorbs all spectrums of light.” Did you know that?
Metaphysically, Saturn is the Great Equalizer and should not be feared. We are the wisest of Practitioners to learn all that we can that corresponds to misunderstood and “fear mongered” Saturn.
CORRESPONDENCES
While these are not a complete list, they are a step. These have been pulled from various cultures from around the world. What do YOU feel? Explore!
Plant Allies
Learning limits and boundaries, Practitioners throughout Time have chosen these Plant Allies where available on Earth to Work with when doing a Binding or Hurtful Spells. They are also called upon for Rituals and Spells of Banishing, especially those of breaking one’s own bad habits, or spellwork for connecting to Our Crone, Hermit, or Elder Streams.
Saturn plants tend to enjoy growing in shade or in dry ground that would not nourish other plants. Although the classical view of this planetary influence has been fear-mongered as evil and its scents as unpleasant this is very limited viewpoint.
Dualistic in their meanings, we find Plant Allies like Hemp, who can either Bind a package, or Bind a person. It is both, helpful and hurtful, it is a Saturn Plant.

Stone Allies
All of these Stones Allies act as sources of discipline and grounding in their vibrations. This is to encourage personal development while providing structure in times of chaos. Again, there are many stones that serve dual purposes in Magick and Medicine. Take for example, Sapphire.
While Sapphire, or Shanipriya which means “peace loving”, was later changed to Sapphire to suit its exporters – it is the FIRST stone of Saturn. It was understood as “peace loving” because it is meant to keep “boundaries”—both internal and external, peaceful, not confrontational. As always, look for items of your area as you are able before you buy into questionable markets that enslave others to mine these stones.

Day of Week: Saturday (Saturn Day)
Month of Year: December… why? It begins the Zodiac for the planet as well as Saturn's great festival, the Saturnalia. It became the most popular of Roman festivals, and its influence is still felt in the celebration of many Pagan seasonal festivals as well as Christmas and the Western world's New Year. The Saturnalia was originally celebrated around December 17, beginning just before Winter Solstice, but it was later extended to seven days.
Zodiac: Capricorn, (from Latin: “Goat-Horned”) in astrology, the 10th sign of the zodiac, considered as governing the period from about December 22 to about January 19.
