Modes, Signs and Houses

MODES

Defined as: Aattributes of the signs of the Zodiac are the three modes: Cardinal, Fixed, and Mutable. These modes characterize one of the major ways that each sign expresses itself. How each acts. Cardinality means starting actions and interactions.

Beginning with modes, we have Cardinal, Fixed and Mutable.

 Cardinal Modes: Action

Fire: Aries

Air: Libra

Water: Cancer

Earth: Capricorn

Cardinal signs are those that must express the qualities of their Element directly, or they will be imbalanced, as evidenced by their thoughts and actions, which can occur in disregard to others and cause harm in one’s Spirit or Matter. These Cardinal signs can be perceived as intense by others. The only way to work around this is by doing Shadow and Ego work with honest effort to Self. Not ignoring what is presented, when presented. These Cardinal signs exemplify both the negative and positive traits of their Element in Action.

Fixed Modes: Stability

Fire: Leo

Air: Aquarius

Water: Scorpio

Earth: Taurus

Next, we have the Fixed Modes of celestial bodies. These represent stability and structure. These signs exude persistence and determination, as well as stubbornness and inflexibility in the negative. A person with a Fixed signature will be quite steady, receptive and/or dominant, careful to complete what they start (often before taking on the next project), thorough, steadfast (sometimes to the point of being intractable), and determined. Fixed people often dislike disruptions, and can resist and avoid change.

Mutable Modes: Change/Movement

Fire: Sagittarius

Air: Gemini

Water: Pisces

Earth: Virgo

Finally, we have Mutable Modes. If Fixed means inertia, both keeping things the way they are and persevering at tasks, then Mutability means combining disparate views, looking in many directions, and adapting to situations, sometimes chaotically or without Focus. These modes represent those that  exhibit change and movement, exemplifying both flexibility and adaptability when they have a plan. These signs are often known for being unreliable though.  To avoid the negative aspect of these, again, one must utilize Shadow Work and Ego Work effectively.

Continuing to look at a western astrology natal chart, we see the 12 signs of that zodiac. Here are each of the signs and a simple description of the traits they exhibit. ANY trait that is perceived to be non-beneficial can be overcome with consistent Shadow and Ego work. This includes Family and Community Shadow. Learning how to “win the game of Life” with the hand you are dealt is imperative to attaining more Knowledge before what some perceive as your next incarnation of Spirit into Matter.

SIGNS

ARIES
Energetic and fast moving, this Fire sign is great at beginning a project but not so great at finishing it.

TAURUS
While they are considered a very stable and practical Earth sign, they can come off as very stubborn.

GEMINI
Sharp minded and communicative, this Air sign can often spread themselves too thin and become seemingly fickle.

CANCER
One of the most emotional and intuitive Water sign of the Western Zodiac, Cancer prefers home and family over anything else. Tending to be thin skinned, this aquatic can brood and develop an extreme lack of self confidence.

LEO
Honorable, generous and enjoying the center of attention, this Fire sign can sometimes come off to others as arrogant, self centered and short sighted.

VIRGO
Earthy perfection and driven by self improvement, this sign can seem hyper-critical at times of Self and others.

LIBRA
Continually seeking peace, and tranquility through balance, this Air sign sometimes misses the mark by being indecisive or changing the mood of the situation.

SCORPIO
Highly psychic and very spiritual, this Water sign tend to stay in for the long haul on most endeavors, professionally and personally. In a negative aspect, Scorpios can be petty, brooding and vengeful.

OPHIUCHUS*
We will also mention here that Ophiuchus, or what is sometimes considered the 13th zodiac as seen in the night sky. Ophiuchus has its own set of stars BETWEEN that of Scorpio and that of Sagittarius, enhancing the traits of one born inside of these focal times of the Constellation with many traits of both signs.

Those born under this sign are described as insightful and curious, and a “seeker of wisdom and knowledge.” They are open to change, as mundane can become boring and are very passionate about what interests them. Generally, they are happy, have plenty of charisma, and have an extremely strong sense of justice and compassion for others.

Some sidereal astrologers may incorporate it into their practices if the perceived traits of an individual line up as well as the timing of their birth for their natal charting. The constellation, which represents a serpent-bearer, falls between the late degrees of Fixed Water sign Scorpio and the earlier degrees of Mutable Fire sign Sagittarius.

SAGITTARIUS
An excellent teacher, this Fire sign is expressive and highly adventurous and enjoys having new Experiences. While having all of those Experiences they can become carried away with Self indulgence.

CAPRICORN
Tremendous skill in whatever they work at in life, they tend to be structured and organized, often they can seem cold and calculating when doing so without regard for others. They must be mindful of being too materialistic in the tremendous working nature.

AQUARIUS
Often seeing new things in unconventional  ways, this Air sign is brilliant with their deep insights. When feeling in the negative, they are often Self-absorbed, misanthropic and seemingly quirky. Aquarians are often guilty of continuing holding on to things that no longer serve anyone, much less themselves.

PISCES
The humanitarian of the group, this Water sign often generous and sympathetic. If they are not in tune, they do not know this is because they are often psychicly Empathic to others. With the inability to stay focused, their imagination runs away with them. There is nothing a little Shadow Work or Ego Work cannot help them reel in.

HOUSES

As we know, there are 12 houses or current standard divisions of the sky, determined by one’s Ascendant Sign. It is also known as one’s Rising Sign or the sign rising on the horizon of Earth the time one is born. It is how one “dawns on others” socially. It also often represents one’s physical body or outward style, as evidenced by various practices in the art of physiognomy.

The divisions determine what cosmic bodies were present at the time and how they will influence the individual’s natal chart. It should be known, that every two hours or so, the Ascendant Sign changes, thus changing all connected information in the Houses. This is why it is important to know one’s time of birth as proper calculation of the remaining Houses is dependent on that Ascendant placement. Knowing this key component, Ascendant, signifies one’s outlook on life itself without having done Shadow or Ego Work.

FIRST HOUSE
This is the Ascendant’s House. Personality. Outlook. How one views the world and how the world views them.

SECOND HOUSE
This House is related to one’s financial status and wealth as well as inner goals.

THIRD HOUSE
Surroundings, friends, neighbors, early life, early education. This house also has cognitive ability and memory as well as native skills.

FOURTH HOUSE
Sometimes a sign of what a low point may be in one’s life, it is more indicative of later years. Home. Family. Roots. Inner Self. (That is where the low point comes in and shows where Shadow Work may be needed.) This also sometimes shows how one is effected by the “less influential” parent.

FIFTH HOUSE
This is a key house to find hidden karma, positive or negative, and a misuse of power. This is also where you find children, past times and creativity.

SIXTH HOUSE
Dependents, not always children. Work. Profession. Creature comforts. Material transaction.

SEVENTH HOUSE
The Descendant house, romantic and adversarial relationships and partnerships. “One to one relationships”

EIGHTH HOUSE
This is a heavy house for many, especially when certain planets are involved. This is where you find the end of life in Matter or the latter years. You will also find magick, psychism and transformation. Inheritances can sometimes be found here as well as a mate or partner’s wealth. Emotional security and security of the soul are found here.

NINTH HOUSE
What we learn in this house shapes our identity. Higher education, religion, spirituality, travel and international activities occur here.

TENTH HOUSE
This is our Midheaven. Fame. Professional standing. Dominant parent. Employers. How the world perceives us. Where you take your place in society or would have more joy to take your place here.

ELEVENTH HOUSE
Wishes. Goals. Friends and social contacts. A place of social and intellectual security.

TWELFTH  HOUSE
Subconscious issues. Issues that hold you back. Things you should consider in transforming for manifesting goals. Principal life lessons. Charity to or from others. Education and emotion can be found here. “Life Lesson”. Where to find buried or unpaid karmic debt.

The key to understanding the zodiac in astrology, is viewing it simply sometimes. Some view it as the hand you are dealt BEFORE birth into this plane. A “pre-Shadow” if you will, that one must overcome through work on Self. Some believe it is carried with you for all of “time” akashicly. That ONE, we stay in a “family” group of energies and entities for this go ‘round (same people, plants, animals – different roles) and TWO, what you do in one life, or what happens to you, what you leave “undone”, carries with you into the next. Many believe you do not simply “reincarnate”. Being what is know as a Conscious Incarnate and incorporating this Knowledge learned in this life as you pass is PRICELESS.

If one is born into a particularly challenging situation as a child, that too is “added Shadow” that one has to overcome. Liken it to Texas Hold ‘Em or Poker. You are dealt a hand and depending on how others play in your game of Life will determine how you must play as you begin to hold more cards in your hand. If you do not play smart, you are left in the game holding a hand of cards, or a hand that must be carried over. This analogy is NOT meant to belittle life, it is only used to show perspective on the “cards” you were already dealt by the actions of two other people in their lives. (Caregivers) As is said, “the Universe peoples as the trees leave”. Hence, the leaves bud, bloom, brown and fall back to the source in their cycle. People do too.

We are simply wiser to remember that sometimes what we see in a chart is NOT from the current “life”. It can be from a previous life, or a future one we are yet to have, Soul Work may be at hand. This is also where “Familial Shadow” comes be seen. That then carries on to “Community Shadow” and “World Shadow”. Every action can be perceived as “ripples in the pond” of Consciousness.

Cartomancy
Tarot Thoughts

Beliefs vary when it comes to using tarot for divination. Some are beneficial and others are considered “superstitions” and should be tempered with the truth of whatever matter is at hand. A well studied Practitioner can tell immediately how well a Diviner may be when their ONLY definition for “The Devil” they have is … THE DEVIL. Or, Death. The Devil has to do with Self-Indulgence and Ego while Death is exhibitive of Change or Transformation. The superstitions of other dogmas, i.e. Islamic or Christian, have crept in.

Other “superstitions” around tarot stem from the fear of Spirit, knowing of Self and denial of Shadow. The bottom line is though, we do not gate keep. If one choose to limit one’s view of What Is, then they have the free will to do so, just as you do to listen to them or not.

In the world of tarot superstitions, there are several surrounding how one acquires their personal deck. Well, its up to you. One feels a teacher or mentor should gift it to you, used. Another says someone else should buy it for you. And, yet even another suggests to buy your own.

No matter what you feel is “right” for you, do not let another dictate their indoctrinated beliefs to you UNLESS you are following a specific Path. If you are deciding to follow a specific Path, following the rules of that Path are highly advised if you are going to be learning and using their magick techniques. None the less, whether one chooses a “new” mass produced deck, an “ancient hand me down”, or even to make their own, the energies from these decks can easily be cleared with selenite, sage, clear quartz, moon light, sun light, etc.

It just depends on YOUR beliefs.

Psalm 51:7 "Purify me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow."

“Every Path has a little bit of the Truth, write your own recipe with what feels right to you”.
