Previously studied with Golanv Circle in December, we hope you were able to read more and view Benebelle’s video.
Here, we are going to take a deeper dive and hopefully add to what you have learned on your own.
History
To begin, we must notify you that many of the “names of things” Westerners use to speak of Chinese Philosophies, both medicines and magicks, are not all correct in their pronunciation. It is very obvious who is taking time to learn and who is not. Regardless, we here at Three Circles Medicine & Magick™ are all working feverishly behind the scenes to correct this prejudice that has occurred in the history of the world. We teach how to speak the word, or better yet, refer you to someone who has the word in their native tongue… the source, such as Benebelle!
Until around 1980 many Westerners had no idea that the origins of the ‘translated’ words they were using for thoughts and things from Zhong Guo (China) were descended from Christian missionaries and their writings. As we have learned, this particular dogma has had a habit of going into a location and corrupting the stories of the indigenous and inserting what they needed to ensure an easy colonization or assimilation would take place. Another aspect at play here was ‘White Privilege’.
The first scholar of Chinese at Cambridge is the root of much modern linguistic thought that we are trying to change today. Thomas Francis Wade, who translated much of what has been used for hundreds of years by Westerners, was done so as his enslaved Zhong Guoan servants felt that they should do this act in order to please Mr Wade. Something looked over at that time and which we now understand, is that there are many provinces in Zhong Guo. They do NOT all speak the same language or dialect. It sounds the same but it is in fact not the same meaning. Often, the FEELINGS that go along with the word do not match what it is saying. (This also occurred in the Americas as the languages were similar sounding but had worlds or different meanings between them.)
Mr Wade was being taught a mix of Cantonese and Mandarin by his servants and applying it as Mandarin only. Which we know now is a totally different province and linguistic set. Wade–Giles is a further romanization system for Mandarin Chinese. (Roman-ized because the conquering continues.) It developed from a system produced by Thomas Francis Wade (and his servants) during the mid-19th century,
Today we have the fortune of being a little more in tune with those in other countries around the world and listening to its indigenous populations. If allowed to share the knowledge, they do. With that, we currently utilize the Pinyan system.
This is a large portion of why we do not teach a lot of Zhong Guoan practices at 3CMM. There are many changes that must be made to interpret meanings accurately. This is one. Cultural “feeling” cannot be taught. However, w are wise to go back and find the disconnect with the THOUGHTS and FEELINGS actuated by a word or communication by another to be internalized and interpreted by our senses.
Ba Gua
Ba Gua is known also as The Bagua or Pakua. It originated in Zhong Guo, and it consists of eight symbols that are utilized in Taoist cosmology to represent the fundamental principles of reality. This is an interpreted basis for all Chinese philosophies. However, to receive a more accurate interpretation, it is best to go to a reputable source from the culture. It behooves us to read the attached link. The basis explained here transcends all philosophies and having that fundamental Knowledge is priceless… seeing the string that connects us all, both as a species and as Terrans — or “those of Earth”.
It is the thought of many Practitioners that the Chinese, due to their innate secrecy and inability to be accurately understood by colonizers or foreigners, were gifted the ability to ‘hide in plain sight’ the esoteric Knowledge that is ages older than even some of the Egyptian Knowledge we have ascertained. China is believed to be one of the now recognized Cradles of Civilization. Before there were “words”, there ere “feelings” and many of us humans have lost our connections to al that is around us.
This has been quite a read. To better understand the flow of energy between the Ultimate, Yin/Yang … or Spirit and Matter further, this is but another Way. Take the weekend if needed to study it. Give it the Time it deserves if curious!
